A few months back I was contacted to produce a large oil painting, inspired by one of the clients favorite artists, Martine Emdur. Upon researching Martine’s work I quickly discovered that she has developed an incredible skill of painting underwater images of people, with perfect reproduction of how light travels through water and how it looks on our skin. I was very aware how much of a challenge this was going to be for me and agreed to take on the project, excited to explore a new style and learn a lot throughout the process.
1800mm x 1200mm frame
I chose to use Belgian Linen for this piece rather than your regular run of the mill canvas…
…and prime it myself
The photo I took of a friend in lake Wanaka which I used for reference.
After around 60 hours over two and a bit months she’s finally completed and ready to move into her new home.
Once she was finished I needed to dismount the canvas from the frame, so that I could roll it up and package it safe and secure before making its journey over to Australia.
She now lives in Noosa, Australia in a beautiful waterfront apartment with spectacular ocean views
1 cooked & chopped chicken breast
1 can of large red kidney beans
1 can of corn kernels
1/2 red capsicum
1/4 cup green beans
3 tbsp salsa
Handful of grated cheese
Salt & pepper
Chuck it in the oven at 180• for about half an hour & enjoy!
I’ve been working on a few different pieces in the past month and a bit, including the large oil painting that I have on the go at the moment, which is almost finished. I’ll be putting up a blog post of its process once I’m done. But here’s one little guy that I finished off today, the rest can be seen on my Illustration and Watercolour pages.
Ok, so a-post-a-day has temporarily been a-post-every-couple-of-days-or-so lately, but I’ve been busy (which is great) and have been collecting a little more content to fill my site with. Here’s a few photos from Grace and Elliot’s wedding
I’ll be adding more to the photography section of the site over the next few weeks.
Congratulations to my lovely friends Grace and Elliot Sims on their beautiful wedding today in Wanaka
